Avery Collins from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, set a new record in the 4th annual KPMG Tortola Torture, a 34-mile ultramarathon in the British Virgin Islands. With a time of 4 hours, 35 minutes and 47 seconds, Avery took a handsome 9 minutes and 18 seconds off Eric Senseman’s 2016 record-setting time (04:45:05).

Record Entries For FU Irma Edition

A record 118 runners have signed up for the 2018 KPMG Tortola Torture. This year sees 47 individuals, 12 two-person and 17 three-person teams on the entry list. The number of individuals and two-person teams has doubled over last year.
Twenty six of this year’s competitors are from overseas: 11 from USA, 8 from St Croix, 6 from Puerto Rico, 3 from Turks & Caicos, 2 from the UK, and 1 from Trinidad & Tobago.

The Runners & Predictions for 2017

With last year’s record-setting Eric Senseman not returning to defend his title, the field is wide open for the 2017 KPMG Tortola Torture. Eric, a pro runner with SCOTT, set the new benchmark time of 04:45:05 in last year’s KPMG Tortola Torture.

Last year’s second place man, Vincent Fournier, is the favourite to grab the crown, but finishing 39 minutes behind Eric last year, it’s unlikely that the course record is in jeopardy.

This year sees 26 individuals, 7 two-person and 15 three-person teams competing.

Jenn Shelton To Compete In The Torture

Acclaimed ultrarunner Jenn Shelton will compete in this year’s KPMG Tortola Torture ultramarathon in the British Virgin Islands. The American 100-mile trail record holder until 2014, Jenn shot to fame in John McDougall’s 2009 book Born to Run.

Jenn set the American trail 100-mile record in 2007 with a time of 14:57:18 at the Rocky Raccoon 100 in Huntsville Texas. She held it for seven years until it fell to Traci Falbo in the 2014 Tunnel Hill 100 Mile in Vienna, Illinois. (Nicole Studer took another 35 minutes off this record in the 2015 Rocky Raccoon).

Eric Senseman Sets New Benchmark in Second Event

Pro runner with SCOTT, Eric Senseman, set the new benchmark time of 04:45:05 in the second annual KPMG Tortola Torture with a new course that added two miles and 500 feet of climbing to last year’s. He joined 84 runners on the 33.74 mile course including 28 other individuals.
